What is Suzuki Talent Education?

Suzuki Talent Education, often called the "mother tongue" method, parallels the way children learn to speak their native language. Listening, imitation, repetition, and a nurturing environment are used to teach music to children, beginning at preschool age. Through the Suzuki method, children acquire confidence through self-discipline, concentration, and determination to try difficult things. Children also develop an appreciation of beauty by discovering the joy that comes through making music.

A parent is required to accompany the child to every lesson and class. At home, that parent becomes the home-teacher, reinforcing lesson concepts, supervising practice and offering encouragement. In addition to private lessons, students learn through music theory and group performance classes. This instruction provides an opportunity for the students to build community while studying note-reading and learning to perform as an ensemble.
